Life is chaotic and it will always be. The recession, financial problems, and everything in between. Depression and anger can make everything worse. Only by remaining calm, we can figure some things out. These are some tips you can try when your mind is chaotic

  1. Breathe and let go
    Crying is okay but sometimes we can’t cry in the office or public. First, slow breathe when you’re angry. Take a moment to inhale and exhale slowly and let go. Letting go doesn’t mean we give up. It means we accept something we can’t change. Letting go means we can try another way or another opportunity. Letting go means we stop trying to control everything. It might make you better and calmer. 

2. Having simple expectations

We always have expectations in life. High expectations can lead us to frustration. Simple expectations will be easier to accomplish. Doing the best and having simple expectations mindset will help us to have a calm mind. In Japanese, we might know kaizen which means to achieve something little by little, piece by piece  Nothing can happen instantly. The day you plant the seed, not the day you reap. Your heart will feel better when you expect nothing from others and act in pure kindness.

3. Stop trying to control everything

A lot of unexpected things in life that we can’t control. Take the pandemic as an example. The pandemic caused many people to lose their families. Not even the best doctor can stop the pandemic. It has kept happening until now. Letting go of what we can’t control will make our emotions better. Blaming everyone won’t make everything better. Only by keeping going and doing your best will you make everything better. 

4. Don’t compare yourself to others

It’s easy to beat yourself up for everything that has happened. The key to a calm mind is accepting that we’re not perfect. Everyone has their own journey. Someone might graduate at twenty but others finish their degree at forty. Everyone is unique and comparing yourself to others will incites anxiety. Only focusing on yourself will make you better. 

5. Enjoy every moment

We tend to focus on what’s missing in our life. That’s the cause of anger and anxiety. We can work hard but still enjoy life. Life may be hard but there must be something positive to see. The sunset is beautiful, enjoy it. Having coffee and enjoying every sip of it. Thinking and feeling about the present moment will heal your soul. Think that you choose to be happy despite everything that has happened. 

6. Choose to think of the best that could happen

We always overthink everything. What’s the worst going to happen? I have to prevent it. That’s what your mind always keeps thinking about. What if I fail? Sometimes, anger comes to think of the worst scenario. Our emotion becomes more sensitive. By thinking what’s the best that could happen it will help us to regulate better emotions.  

7. Choosing a healthier lifestyle

A healthier lifestyle can contribute to our emotions. Healthy good food can improve our moods, such as dark chocolate, matcha, or green tea. Eating bad food can cause a lot of complications such as cholesterol, and diabetes. It will affect our emotions. Healthy food and regular exercise can improve our minds to be calmer. 

8. Talking with people you can trust

Not everyone can afford a therapist. All you need is a good listener. A friend you can trust to tell your feeling. Having someone that you can trust will give you a better mood and emotion. Make sure you choose the right people in your circle, a good listener that will never judge you.

9. Accept everything that can’t be changed

A lot of things we can’t accept in our life. Sometimes, we spend plenty of time in denial. A lot of things we can’t change in our life such as the death of someone we really love. The job you lost. The project you can’t get. The failure to get into our favorite university. Sometimes, we need our hearts to accept what our minds already know. Life is always going to be chaotic. Sometimes, we need to accept what we can’t change. So, we can try another way. One door might be closed, there must be another you can build.

10. Focus on what you have (grateful)

Having a grateful heart will contribute to a calm mind. If we focus on what we lack we will never have a calm mind. Your friend has Lamborghini and you don’t. you keep jealousy in your heart, and you will feel bad yourself. Life isn’t always about showing off in fake perfection. It’s about building and creating yourself. 

However, it depends on us. Are we going to face everything with anger or calmness? We might need some time to cry or express our emotions. But in the end, calmness can help us to think clearly.
